MCL Surgery

MCL Surgery

Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) surgery is performed to repair or reconstruct the ligament located on the inner side of the knee. The MCL is essential for stabilizing the knee and preventing it from bending inward. Injuries to the MCL commonly result from trauma, twisting motions, or direct impact during sports or accidents. While many MCL injuries can heal through conservative methods like rest, bracing, and physiotherapy, surgery may be necessary in cases of complete tears, chronic instability, or if other ligaments are injured alongside the MCL. MCL reconstruction typically involves using a graft, either from the patient or a donor, to replace the torn ligament and restore knee function. The surgery aims to reestablish knee stability and prevent long-term joint problems. After surgery, patients undergo a carefully structured rehabilitation program that includes physical therapy to regain strength, flexibility, and mobility. Recovery may take between 3 to 6 months, depending on the severity of the injury and the patient’s commitment to rehab. MCL surgery has a high success rate, and most patients return to normal activity levels without pain or instability, especially when the procedure is followed by dedicated post-operative care.
